The Congress on Monday said it will contest the Punjab elections under the leadership of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu and both will be our faces. This statement from the Congress party came after the statement of General Secretary in-charge of Punjab, Harish Rawat. Harish Rawat had said that the Congress would contest the elections in Punjab under the leadership of Navjot Singh Sidhu. After this statement of Rawat, the opposition parties had become an attacker on the Congress.
Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the next Punjab Assembly elections would be fought under the leadership of both Channi and Sidhu and attacked the BJP, Akali Dal, BSP and Aam Aadmi Party for insulting a Dalit chief minister. Surajewala also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership as to why they did not name any Dalit as their chief minister.
Surajewala said that Charanjit Singh Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu as well as ordinary Congress workers will participate in the elections. He said that if anyone says that there will be one face or the other, it is either intentional or it is being misinterpreted by the media.
Surajewala alleged that Harish Rawat’s statement was misinterpreted and said that I want to tell all my friends in the media, please, AAP is also a young Dalit leader and the role given to him as the Chief Minister of Punjab. do not be offended. Naturally he will be our face along with Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Surjewala said, “We urge the BJP, Akali Dal, BSP and AAP to stop insulting Dalits and spreading lies about them.” He alleged that the BJP, SAD, AAP and BSP have attacked Channi’s candidature “inadvertently, shamelessly and regretfully”.
