Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday reached the AICC headquarters in Delhi for the first time after resigning from the post of Congress’s Punjab unit president and met organization general secretary KC Venugopal and Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat. Sidhu reached 24 Akbar Road at around 6.30 pm, though he did not answer any questions on the possibility of withdrawing his resignation or any other query from journalists.
According to sources, the meeting took place at Venugopal’s office. It is being said that after this meeting, the Congress party can also take some decisions regarding Sidhu. This meeting of senior leaders with Navjot Singh Sidhu took place two days before the CWC meeting. Regarding this meeting, Congress leader Rawat had already said that Sidhu is reaching the national capital to discuss organizational matters of the state Congress with party leaders. Congress sources also said that at present there is no schedule for meeting Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi during Sidhu’s visit to Delhi.
Earlier on Wednesday, Sidhu had said that he would always be grateful to the Congress high command for the honor accorded to him. Along with this, he insisted that he can never compromise. Sidhu had said that those who understand his love for Punjab would never level any allegations against him.
What did Harish Rawat say?
Here, regarding the ongoing tussle in the Punjab Congress, party leader Harish Rawat said that a solution will be found soon. All India Congress Committee, Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat assured that this problem will be resolved soon and it takes some time to sort out such things. He said that Navjot Singh Sidhu and Charanjit Singh Channi have spoken on some issues. A solution will come out soon.
Sidhu had resigned from the post of president
Let us tell you that on September 28, Sidhu had resigned as the president of the Punjab unit of the Congress. In a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Sidhu had said that he would continue to serve the party. He had written in the letter, ‘The decline in the personality of any person starts with compromise, I cannot compromise on the future of Punjab and the agenda of welfare of Punjab.’
The high command did not accept the resignation
The Congress high command has not yet accepted Sidhu’s resignation. It is being said that some points can be agreed after Thursday’s meeting. Charanjit Singh Channi was entrusted with this responsibility after Captain Amarinder Singh stepped down as the Chief Minister recently. It was also discussed during that time that Sidhu is not happy with the style of Chief Minister Channi, although Congress sources deny this.
