The Congress party will organize a massive agitation across the country from November 14 to November 29 against the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said on Saturday, “We are going to continuously agitate against the hike in petrol and diesel prices. We will run a massive campaign from November 14 to November 29.”
The protests will witness programs like taking out ‘padyatras’ by Congress leaders in their respective areas. “During these 15 days – a week, entire Congress committees will also undertake padyatras in their respective areas across the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram also attacked the central government over the hike in fuel prices and said taxes should be reduced as suggested by the Reserve Bank of India.
Former finance minister P Chidambaram said in Chennai on Saturday, “It is only the greed of the government which has increased the prices of petrol and diesel. That’s why the RBI says that the pump prices deserve less taxation. The RBI has repeatedly asked the government to Saying that the pump prices should be reduced.”
Petrol and diesel prices were increased across the country for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday. With a hike of Rs 0.35, the price of petrol in the national capital increased to Rs 107.24 per liter, while that of diesel increased by the same amount to Rs 95.97 per litre.
The price of petrol and diesel in Mumbai is Rs 113.12 and Rs 104.00 per liter respectively.
