The Congress on Monday alleged that the BJP is conspiring to humiliate the BJP after becoming the chief minister of Punjab’s poor and Dalit son, Charanjit Singh Channi. Party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also hit back at BSP chief Mayawati for one of her statements and challenged her to declare a Dalit as the chief ministerial candidate of the Shiromani Akali Dal and BSP alliance in Punjab.
“The BJP has a stomach ache with Charanjit Singh Channi becoming the chief minister. That’s why she is conspiring to insult Channi ji and Dalits by sneezing. Modi ji asks for votes in the name of Dalits, but he has not made any Dalit chief minister in the country.
The Congress leader asked, “Can’t the son of a poor and Dalit become the Chief Minister? Why are BJP, AAP, BSP and Akali Dal feeling stomach ache?
According to Surjewala, the Congress gave opportunities to the Dalit community to reach the post of President, Lok Sabha Speaker and Home Minister of the country. Countering Mayawati’s statement, the Congress leader said, “We respect Mayawati ji. They are our elders. We ask him to announce that the chief ministerial candidate of Akali Dal and BSP in Punjab will be a Dalit.
Describing Channi as an election gimmick, Mayawati said that the Congress is very much nervous about the BSP and Akali Dal alliance in the assembly elections, that is why it has done so.
