Hitting out at the Congress over the political turmoil in Punjab, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday said it is very unfortunate that the Congress is at the level of compromising national security for small personal or political gains of some people. But it’s gone. He insisted that national security comes first for the BJP.
In an exclusive interview with news agency ANI, Piyush Goyal also hit back at Rahul Gandhi’s attacks. “His party (BJP) does not take it seriously,” he said. He has accused the Congress leadership of “destabilizing their own governments almost day after day”.
Goel, without taking names, said that the present leadership of the Congress has completely turned away from the concerns of the nation. Referring to Captain Amarinder Singh’s remarks, Piyush Goyal said the kind of concern expressed is a threat to national security. The borders of Punjab are a matter of deep concern.
He said, “As a BJP leader, I am extremely concerned about what is happening in the Congress party in Punjab, because for us national security comes first. You know our basic training and our basic of public service. Understanding nation is first, party followed, self last. We are all trained to think and act like this.”
The instability and concern expressed by Captain Amarinder Singh about Punjab’s borders is a threat to national security. In fact it is a matter of concern for the whole country. All I can say is that it is very, very unfortunate that the Congress has gone to the level of compromising national security for the sake of petty, personal or political gains of a few.”
Asked how the Congress will solve its problems in Punjab, Piyush Goyal said he cannot comment on what the Congress party is planning to do or will do.
He said, “Any action of the Congress does not imply that they have any concern for national security or national interest. I have not yet heard any comment from any senior leader except G-23. The current leadership of the Congress is the nation. Has completely separated from the concerns of.’
Charanjit Singh Channi took over as the new Chief Minister of Punjab after Amarinder Singh resigned a few months before the assembly elections in the state. However, the ruling party in Punjab plunged into a new crisis as Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned as the state party chief on 28 September.
Amarinder Singh has said that he will quit the Congress and if Sidhu contests, will defeat it in the 2022 assembly elections. The former chief minister had also said that Sidhu is not the right man for Punjab. He has links with Pakistani agencies. Saying that Pakistan is responsible for sending weapons, drones, explosives to the border state and when you know the big guys at the top, it becomes a matter of national security.
On Rahul Gandhi’s allegations, Goyal said, “I think, it has almost become like a joke. Some of the comments and tweets that we keep getting from some persons in India are not taken seriously by our party. have become a subject of ridicule. Within the party about what is happening. They are destabilizing their governments almost day by day.”
