Children born in stormy weather, remember all, hence the name of cyclone ‘Rose’

Thinking the same, these mothers of Odisha have named their newborn children after Cyclone Gulab. At least two women in Odisha’s Ganjam district have named their newborn daughters after cyclone Gulab. Cyclone Gulab brought heavy rains and landfall in the state. Kuni Rait and Nandini Sabar gave birth to daughters in different government hospitals on Sunday. At that time the cyclone had knocked in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh.

The nurses at the hospital suggested them to name their children ‘Gulaab’. Which he accepted.

“I am happy that my baby came into the world on a day that everyone will remember,” Sabar said on Monday. Sabar, a resident of Sordapally village, gave birth to a baby girl at the Sumandla Community Health Center. Some of the staff there suggested that the child be named ‘Rose’ so that everyone would remember the time of his arrival.


Rait, a resident of a village in Ankuli Panchayat, gave birth to a baby girl at Patrapur Community Hospital. She also wants to name her child on the cyclone. “We suggested that she name her baby Gulab and she accepted,” said a hospital nurse. The name of the cyclone ‘Gulaab’ was given by Pakistan.

Ganjam Chief District Medical Officer Uma Shankar Mishra said that the administration has shifted 241 pregnant women to nearby hospitals till 6 pm on Sunday.
