Center gave instructions to open ration shops throughout the week



New Delhi (Loksatya). The Center has directed the states and union territories to keep ration shops open throughout the week. In view of the lockdown going on in some states and union territories, due to which the working hours of Fair Price Shops (FPS) can be reduced, a consultation has been issued by the Department of Food and Public Distribution. According to this consultation, all states and Union Territories should keep fair price shops open on all days of the month and distribute the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana – and National Food Security Act – NFSA food grains to the beneficiaries in a systematic manner.

During this time, the right safe distance and the Kovid-19 protocol should be ensured at the fair price shops. To facilitate this, States and Union Territories have also been requested to ensure that fair price shops are exempted from the restricted hours of regular market opening.


All the States and Union Territories have been requested to take necessary steps to ensure timely distribution of foodgrains to the fair rate shops without any difficulty to the beneficiaries and also widely publicize the measures taken in this regard.

With this assistance, the implementation of “Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana” has been started for the period of two months ie May and June 2021 in the same manner as per an additional quota of free food grains (rice / wheat) as per earlier The person was done by providing five kilograms of ration per month.
