Even after Navjot Singh Sidhu got the captaincy of Congress in Punjab, the party’s troubles are not taking the name of stopping. Within the Punjab Congress, there is still a political tussle between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Captain Amarinder Singh. The situation has come that the advisors from Sidhu are openly attacking the Captain. In view of the increasing activism of the Sidhu faction and Navjot’s advice from the Congress, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh performed a show of strength on Thursday. In an apparent show of strength, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday met around 55 Congress MLAs and eight MPs over dinner at a cabinet colleague’s house in Chandigarh.
In fact, four ministers of the Sidhu faction in the state are demanding a replacement for the chief minister. Three of them did not attend the meeting of the Council of Ministers held during the day. Captain Amarinder held a meeting with party legislators in the backdrop of a clash between factions of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and state Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu. Let us tell you that this meeting of Amarinder Singh is also important because Congress in-charge Harish Rawat had advised Sidhu to remove the advisors earlier in the day.
According to sources, Amarinder Singh met around 55 party MLAs and eight MPs at the official residence of Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi. He said that earlier in the day, cabinet ministers Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa did not attend the digital meeting of the state council of ministers. Amarinder Singh presided over the meeting. However, Minister Charanjit Singh Channi attended the meeting.
It is to be noted here that the Congress has 80 MLAs and eight MPs in the state. But 25 MLAs have rebelled due to the fear of tickets. These MLAs are considered to be of Navjot Singh Sidhu faction and they fear that if the Congress party contests the elections on the face of Captain, then his card may be cut. However, Harish Rawat has met them and it is believed that Rawat will also meet Sonia Gandhi today and inform about the situation.
Here, Navjot Singh Sidhu once again reminded Amarinder Singh of the promise of reduction in electricity rates. In a tweet tagging a video of Amarinder Singh, Sidhu said, “The Congress party stands by its resolve to provide domestic electricity at Rs 3 per unit and industrial electricity at Rs 5 per unit along with its resolve to give subsidy. This promise must be fulfilled.
