Republic TV chief-in-chief Arnab Goswami was arrested on charges of suicide by a 53-year-old interior designer. Police also searched Arnab’s house. The news agency PTI quoted Mumbai police as saying. In May this year, the Maharashtra government ordered a CID probe.
Arnab Goswami was arrested by the CID in 2018 on charges of interior design and suicide investigation by his mother Kumud Naik. At the same time, the news agency ANI reported that Arnab Goswami had alleged that the Mumbai police had quarreled with him. The agency shared several screenshots from the Republican TV channel, which showed police entering Arnab’s home and being the victim of a clash.
The news agency PTI quoted a police official as saying that a team of Alibag police had arrested Goswami from his residence. Goswami was seen sitting in a police van. In 2018, an architect and his mother complained to Goswami that he had committed suicide for not paying Republic TV.
In May this year, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh announced a re-order based on new allegations by Adnan Naik, daughter of architect Anbay Naik. Deshmukh said Adnanya had alleged that Alibag police had not investigated Goswami’s channel for non-payment of arrears. He claims that this is why his father and grandfather committed suicide in May 2018.
Earlier, no evidence was found against Arnab
In May this year, Anbay’s wife, Akshat, appealed to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for justice. However, according to Anil Paraskar, the then SP of Raigad, no evidence was found against the accused even after the investigation of the case. Police also filed a report in court. A copy of it was sent to the complainant but they refused to sign. After that, a copy of the report was sent to him via email.
