Assembly elections are due in Karnataka in 2023. Just before that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to be in the mood for a major change in the government. Yeddyurappa was first asked to resign. After that Basavaraj Bommi from Lingayat was made the new Chief Minister of the state. According to the news that is coming now, BJP is thinking of making five Deputy Chief Ministers here.

Let us tell you that after taking oath as the Chief Minister, Bommai is on a Delhi tour today. Here he is also to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The cabinet is yet to be finalized after the formation of the new government.

It is being said that after his Delhi tour, Bommai will give it the final shape. The new Karnataka chief minister is likely to elect five deputy chief ministers and induct six to eight new faces in his cabinet with the 2023 assembly elections in mind. Let us tell you that maximum 34 ministers can be made in Karnataka.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy was the first person in the country to have a jumbo team of five deputy CMs in 2019.

To discuss cabinet formation, a senior BJP functionary said the deputy CM would be selected from five major social groups – SC, ST, Vokkaliga, Lingayat and OBC. According to him, the Lingayat-Brahmin party will soon make an all-Hindu appeal to all communities as it struggles to cross the magic figure of 113 seats in the assembly elections since 2008.

The party’s central leadership has kept former CM BS Yediyurappa and Lingayats happy by making Basavaraj Bommai the chief minister. Now, they want to ensure that key groups among other communities – especially SC/ST and OBC – are not overlooked.
