Bijapur Naxal Attack: Number of martyred soldiers increased from five to 24 in encounter, 31 injured

Bijapur (Lokasatya). In the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, a day after the encounter between the police and the Naxalites lasted for almost four hours on Saturday, the number of martyred soldiers increased from five to 24 and 31 soldiers were injured in the day.

Police sources quoting information received today after the encounter said that 24 soldiers have been martyred. At the same time, 31 soldiers have been confirmed injured, out of which about a dozen have been sent to the capital Raipur for treatment. Remaining treatment is going on in the hospital here. Some of the injured men have also become very serious. Police believe that some Naxalites are also feared dead, whose bodies are in the possession of Naxalites.

According to the information received, hundreds of Naxalites attacked the joint police patrol in the area surrounded by hills in the forest. Hundreds of soldiers were also included in the patrol. It is reported that the Naxalites were attacking from the hills. Meanwhile, more number of police force has been rushed to the spot today.

Sources say that the encounter site is about 75 km from here. The encounter started at around two o'clock in the day and lasted till late in the evening. In the dense forest area surrounded by hills, the death of five soldiers was confirmed by senior officials till late last night. Of the injured, 12 jawans were sent by helicopter to Raipur late yesterday evening.

Police said that the encounter took place in the jungles of Tarrem area on the border of Sukma district in Bijapur district. It has been told that a patrol team was sent here on the information of the gathering of the Naxalites and their leaders for a few days.
