Maoists forwarded the vehicle on election duty in Bandwan in Purulia district on Friday night even before the first phase of the West Bengal assembly elections began. Tight security arrangements have been made in Bengal in view of the possibility of electoral violence.
In West Bengal, the first phase of assembly elections 2021, voting has started at 7 am. Voting time has been extended to follow Corona’s guidelines. Voting will be held for 30 assembly seats in Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, East and West Medinipur by 6:30 pm today. A total of 191 candidates are trying their luck in these seats.
29-29 candidates from Trinamool and BJP are in the fray. The CPI (M) is contesting 18 seats, Congress six seats, BSP 11 seats, CPI four seats, Forward Bloc two seats, RSP one seat in this phase. There are 48 candidates from other parties in the fray, while there are 43 such candidates who are contesting as independents.
