Assam Rifles’ campaign to rein in smugglers continues. Assam Rifles jawans have seized a large consignment of foreign cigarettes. Along with this, the soldiers have also succeeded in arresting three people. The Assam Rifles has taken this action in Champhai district of Mizoram. The jawans have seized 502 cans of foreign cigarettes from near Kelkang-Khongleng road. It is being told that on the basis of their information, the Assam Rifles and Custom Department have jointly acted and caught the smugglers. It is being told that the value of the seized foreign cigarettes is about Rs 6,52,60,000 crore in the market. The recovered items have been handed over to the Customs Department. Stopping drug smuggling is a major challenge in Mizoram. Especially on the Indo-Myanmar border, smugglers are often in the lurch of smuggling.
Let us inform that earlier the Assam Police on Thursday arrested two persons in Jorabat on the outskirts of Guwahati and recovered heroin worth Rs 4.5 crore from them. An officer said that the police had received information that a consignment of narcotics was about to arrive from Manipur. Based on this, the police laid siege at Jorabat outpost under Basistha police station and during investigation, 660 grams of heroin in 60 packets in plastic soap containers was recovered from a truck.
A police spokesman had said that the driver of the vehicle and another person, resident of Thoubal district of Manipur, were arrested in this connection. A case has been registered in this regard at Basistha police station and further investigation is on, he said. Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sarma has congratulated the police for this work by tweeting.
