Terming capacity development of the armed forces as a national imperative in the wake of India’s border dispute with the two neighboring countries, Army Chief General MM Naravane on Tuesday said subversive technologies are rapidly changing the character of the modern world. General Naravane on the occasion of signing of MoU between National Defense University (RRU) at Gandhinagar and Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) said that academic strength to meet the challenges of modern warfare needs to be enriched with operational understanding. The event was organized at the RRU campus in Gandhinagar.
General Naravane said, “Disruptive technologies are changing the character of the modern world faster than ever. We have seen the decisive impact of these technologies in recent conflicts around the world.
“Given our active and disputed borders with our two neighbors to the north and east, capacity development of the armed forces is a national imperative,” he said, adding that the reliance on specific technologies with other countries is poses “significant vulnerabilities especially in times of conflict”, and the Indian Army’s cooperation with BISAG-N will go a long way in addressing these challenges internally.
The Army Chief said the Indian Army’s cooperation with BISAG-N and RRU is in line with the government’s vision of a “self-reliant India” and will pave the way for “civilian-military cooperation” in defense capability development. The Army Chief said that the cooperation between the two (civilian and military) is in the area of developing technology, development of GIS and IT based software systems, training material and transmission of audio-visual material.
General Naravane said, “There is a need to enrich academic strength with operational understanding to meet the challenges of modern warfare.” Lt Gen Raj Shukla. RRU Vice Chancellor Bimal Patel and Bisag-C Director General TP Singh exchanged the MoUs.
