AgustaWestland ‘missing’ from Defense Ministry’s new list, 6 companies blacklisted and 13 suspended

The Indian Defense Ministry has released a new list of contract firms following allegations of corruption in Congress’s AgustaWestland. Those with whom the deal has been put on hold or withheld or suspended till November 12. In this new list, 6 firms have been blacklisted while business with 13 companies has been stopped. Interestingly, the name of AgustaWestland is not there in this list.

On Sunday, the Defense Ministry released a new list of contracting companies. In which six companies have been blacklisted while 13 other companies have been suspended for business. The blacklisted companies include Singapore Technologies Kinetics Limited (STK), Israel Military Industries Limited (IMI), TS Kisan & Co Pvt Ltd, RK Machine Tools Limited (Ludhiana), Rheinmetall Air Defense (RAD), Zurich and Corporation Defense (Russia). Huh.

However, the list does not name AgustaWestland and its parent firm Leonardo, formerly called Finmeccanica. The government banned Leonardo (then renamed Finmeccanica) from all future military contracts in 2014.

Meanwhile, business with 13 firms has been suspended. These include IDS, Tunisia, Infotech Design Systems (IDS) Mauritius, IDS Infotech Limited Mohali, Aeromatrix Info Solutions Pvt Ltd Chandigarh, Shanks Oceaneering Inter Spiro India Pvt Ltd, Inter Spiro India Pvt Ltd, Expert Systems, Unitech Enterprises, Kelvin. Engineering, the Atlas Group of companies including Atlas Telecom and Atlas Defense Services, Offset India Solutions (P) Ltd and its group companies, Pilatus Aircraft Ltd Switzerland and Vectra Advanced Engineering Pvt Ltd (VAEPL).

It is clear from the new list of the ministry that purchases from Rolls-Royce and its subsidiaries and subsidiaries and two companies named Tatra Truck of the Czech Republic have been banned.

According to a report in news agency PTI, the new notification of the ministry comes after the Congress party raised questions about lifting the ban on purchases from Finmeccanica. On behalf of the Congress party, MP Rahul Gandhi had tweeted, targeting the government, “Earlier Agusta was corrupt, now BJP has been cleaned after washing clothes.”
