Amid speculations about cabinet expansion and organizational reshuffle in Rajasthan, senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Friday met former party president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Pilot’s meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, a former deputy chief minister of Rajasthan, comes days after the dramatic developments in Punjab saw the Congress replacing Amarinder Singh with Dalit leader Charanjit Singh Channi as the chief minister of the state.

Pilot had also met Gandhi last week. He met Rahul Gandhi at his residence on Tughlaq Road in Delhi on Friday and Priyanka Gandhi was also present during this. Since the developments in Punjab, there has been a discussion about Rajasthan in the Congress corridor of power, where Pilot and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot are in a tussle over the leadership. At the same time, Chhattisgarh is next in the list of Rahul Gandhi, where he has to solve the problem of the party.

No official information has been given about what was discussed in Pilot’s meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, but sources say that possible cabinet expansion and organization reshuffle were discussed in the meeting. Pilot has been demanding for a long time that the cabinet should be expanded in Rajasthan and appointments to the state boards and corporations should be done soon. He is insisting that the Congress leaders and workers who are working with him should be given their due due to the party.

There is also a discussion about Pilot’s return to the post of party unit president in Rajasthan. However, his supporters are insisting that there should be a change of leadership in Rajasthan by replacing Gehlot. It is worth noting that Pilot and his supporting MLAs had revolted against Chief Minister Gehlot last year in protest against his style of functioning, after which Pilot was removed from the post of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress President and Deputy Chief Minister. Sources said that the Congress leadership wants to solve the problem of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. In Chhattisgarh, Health Minister TS Singhdeo has been demanding the removal of Bhupesh Baghel from the post of Chief Minister, citing an alleged verbal agreement on sharing the top post for two-and-a-half years.

Congress general secretary and party in-charge of Rajasthan Ajay Maken had said last week that the roadmap for cabinet expansion and organization reshuffle was ready in the state. “Had Ashok Gehlot not fallen ill, we would have expanded the cabinet and the roadmap is ready for the appointment of board, corporation and district heads,” he had said in the press conference.
