APJ Abdul Kalam Biography

Former President of India Abdul Kalam’s full name was Abul Paki’s Zainulbadin Abdul Kalam. He was born on October 15, 1931, on the island of Dhanushkori in South India to a poor Muslim family. His family was poor and he had to work from an early age to support his family. He received his primary education from Schwartz Matriculation in Ramanathapuram. He then moved to St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli for further studies. He then obtained a degree in physics in 1954 and later moved to Madras to study space engineering.

After graduating from the Madras Institute of Technology Chennai in 1960, Kalam became a scientist in the establishment of the Aeronautical Development of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). It is said that Kalam was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organization. From there he became the head of the first domestic satellite launch vehicle for India. In 1970, Rohini successfully launched the satellite into Earth orbit.
