Delhi Police has beefed up security in crowded areas, including markets and malls, in view of the festive season. Security has been beefed up in overcrowded and congested areas and additional ‘pickets’ are being deployed in sensitive areas, a senior police official said.
These steps have been taken after Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana directed the Deputy Commissioners of Police to emphasize on anti-terrorist measures, increase police presence and intensify night patrolling in the capital. The official said that the cooperation of the public is also being taken along with the police and it is a joint exercise. Audio tapes are also being played to make people aware. He said that meetings are also being held with ‘RWAs’ and ‘MWAs’ and they are also being sensitized.
Another senior official said that night patrolling has been increased. He said that we have increased night patrolling and pickets have been installed in sensitive areas, verification of tenants is being done. Cyber cafes, SIM card vendors and second hand car dealers are also being verified.
He said that we are doing extensive checking of parking spaces across the city including in metro and mall areas. Overcrowded markets where shop owners keep their belongings outside are also being sensitized and asked to install more CCTV cameras.
