A police complaint has been lodged against Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee for hurting religious sentiments.

A police complaint has been lodged against Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee for hurting religious sentiments. During a rally in Howrah district on Saturday, Banerjee spoke of Goddess Sita and Lord Ram targeting the BJP over the Hathras incident in Uttar Pradesh, which has caused controversy. The Hindu Council strongly accused Banerjee of hurting the feelings of Hindus. A video of Banerjee’s speech went viral on social media.

On Sunday, a BJP youth front activist lodged a complaint against Banerjee at the Golabari police station in Howrah district for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayavirji alleged that the Trinamool Congress does not take care of about 70 per cent of the state’s population and is running the government for only 30 per cent. Binod Bansal, national spokesperson of the World Hindu Council, said, “The obscene remarks towards Goddess Sita and Lord Rama have exposed the politics and policies of the Trinamool Congress.” Banerjee, meanwhile, said he took the joke and the intention was not to hurt anyone’s feelings. “I have received information about the complaint lodged with the police and I will present my case in court,” he said.
